What is safety glass? What is the difference with tempered glass?

Tempered glass, because of the formation of small fragments after crushing, reduces the risk of cuts, tempered glass is used in many fields, and there is another term, called "safety glass." In fact, safety glass is a general term for a type of glass. It requires strong vibration or impact without breaking. Even if it is broken, it is not easy to injure people, and tempered glass is one of them.

1.Tempered glass

The tempered glass is produced by uniformly cooling the glass to a softening temperature and quenching it with a cooling medium such as high-speed air. This glass surface has a uniform compressive stress, which can improve the mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance of the glass. When air is used as the cooling medium, it is called tempering; when liquid such as oil is used as the cooling medium, it is called liquid tempering; when molten salt is used as the cooling medium, it is called tempering in salt bath. According to the degree of rigidity and the shape of the product, it can be divided into complete tempering, regional tempering, semi-tempering, planar tempering and curved tempering. The flexural strength of tempered glass is 3 to 5 times larger than that of untreated glass, up to 150 to 250 MPa, and the thermal stability is improved by 3 to 4 times, and can withstand a temperature difference of 200 to 250 °C. When broken, it forms particles with no sharp edges and corners. It is very harmful to human body and is the most widely used safety glass.

2. Laminated glass

Laminated glass is a composite glass product obtained by heating and pressure-bonding a transparent polyvinyl butyral film or other bonding material between two or more sheets of glass. When it is impacted, because the middle layer is elastic, the bonding force is strong, and the impact strength can be improved. When the broken piece is broken, the pieces do not fall or splash, and the damage to the human body can be effectively prevented or mitigated. In addition, special laminated glass can be produced by using heat absorbing glass, heat reflecting glass, color glass, and conductive film glass. It is mainly used for transportation vehicles and parts with special requirements in buildings.

3. Bulletproof glass

Bulletproof glass can be said to be the highest level of safety glass at present. It is made of tempered glass, chemically reinforced glass, wire (net) glass and high-strength organic materials (such as oriented plexiglass, polycarbonate, etc.) and is made by sandwich process. Composite glass. According to different requirements, different materials can be used to form different composite structures, which can resist the performance of bullet shooting and prevent theft in a certain distance. Generally used for buildings and border defense observation posts with special bulletproof or anti-theft requirements.
